Uniform subsidy for govt schools, Scholarships, Textbooks hiked in Budget
This year’s budget allocation for education has seen an increase of Rs 90 crore over last year. It has gone up from Rs 1,032 crore in 2009-2010 to Rs 1,222 crore. The highlights include a hike in freebies such as scholarships, subsidy for school uniforms and text books, among others.
While Delhi government has allocated 10% of the total outlay to the sector besides expanding the present infrastructure, no new schemes have been announced. In the school sector, upgrade and addition of new schools in unrepresented localities and pre-primary classes in all Sarvodaya Vidyalayas is in the offing.
The subsidy of Rs 500 on school uniforms to students of Delhi government and girl students of government-aided schools from class VI to XII has been hiked to Rs 700. For MCD schools it has been raised from Rs 200 to Rs 500 from the 2010-2011 academic session. The uniform subsidy in aided schools has been extended to male students from this year.
